Why at least part of every WWW address is useless!

Have you ever wondered why you have to type http:// or https:// every time you want to enter a web address? After all this time I bet you have stopped thinking about it. Firefox and the IE 7 and 8 do not require you to type it at all.
However if you think of all the time everyone on the planet spends typing this prefix to a web address then you can imagine the amount of hours that are lost to this quirky little start to the traditional web address and it turns out, there’s no really good reason for it!
Tim Berners-Lee a man most of you have probably never heard of is actually the guy that is credited with inventing the World Wide Web (WWW) as we know it.
And looking back, he says that while the “http” part of a URL makes sense, there is actually no need for the particularly annoying double slashes!!
Berners-Lee laments freely admits that many, many work hours could have been saved if he had left out the unnecessary // marks.
We have to ask was this the worlds best wind up. Maybe we will never know but needless to say they are totally useless! Nobody is really all that hurt by their presence. But let’s hope that we find a way to phase them out ASAP!
